Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

The Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band (or Lap-Band®) is a prosthetic device that is placed at the entrance to the stomach to assist patients in limiting that amount of food that they take in.

The surgery is performed with small incisions in the upper abdomen.

Most patients can leave the hospital the day of their surgery, stay on liquids and soft foods for the first month, and are fully recuperated and eating regular food 4-6 weeks after surgery.

The adjustable band can be tightened or loosened with a needle that is used to access a small port under the skin of the abdominal wall.

Our patients have demonstrated 45% excess weight loss with placement of the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band.
